Mansfield Municipal Electric Department (MMED) customers can take an active role in reducing their carbon footprints by participating in MMED’s Go REO (renewable energy option) program. Go REO allows customers to voluntarily add a contribution onto their energy bills to ensure clean, renewable energy is delivered to the regional power grid on their behalf.
Customers can sign up to select a dollar amount equal to a percentage (20%, 50%, 75%, 100%) of their total energy consumption to contain energy renewable resources. A commitment for 1 year is required but customers can sign up anytime. At the end of the calendar year, MMED uses the money earned from the Go REO program to purchase Massachusetts Class I renewable energy credits (RECs) on behalf of the department and its customers. A REC is generated each time one megawatt-hour (MWh) of renewable energy is generated and delivered to the grid.
