Effective immediately, Groton Electric Light Department (GELD) is no longer accepting any NEW applications for the Scheduled EV charging program. For customers currently enrolled, effective January 1, 2024, GELD will no longer be participating in the Scheduled EV Charging program.
Your charger will be unenrolled from Scheduled Charging on that date; you will no longer experience any charging reductions.
If you joined Scheduled Charging, you agreed to a 3-year period of scheduled charging in return for the rebate GELD offered. If your 3-year scheduled charging period has not yet been completed, GELD will forgive any remaining commitment. You will now own the charger outright with no remaining commitment to GELD.
However, reducing use of “Peak Power” is important because peak electric usage represents an inordinate percentage of overall wholesale electric costs. To avoid increased electric costs, we encourage you to continue to avoid charging during GELD “on-peak hours” (4:00 through 8:00 PM) when electric rates are much higher. Scheduling your charging to begin after 8:00 PM should still permit your EV to be fully charged by morning.
